Overview
Portugal is committed to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and its compliance in an integrated and inclusive manner.
The RCM no. 5/2023, of 23 January, has boosted this goal by repositioning the coordination of the 2030 Agenda at the centre of government, creating a monitoring structure that aims to implement it with an integrated approach for all levels of government (whole-of-government approach) and the whole of society (whole-of-society approach).
This project aims to support the Presidency’s area of government in coordinating and monitoring the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and in fulfilling the competences assigned to it in this area.
Objectives
- To coordinate internal reporting activities on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, including the drafting of National Voluntary Reports;
- To coordinate the preparation of the National Roadmap for Sustainable Development 2030, the main strategic objectives of which are: 1) to improve the monitoring and evaluation of Portugal’s progress towards the SDGs; 2) to define a strategic framework of public policies for Sustainable Development; 3) to promote the coherence and alignment of public policies (mechanisms and tools); and 4) to increase the levels of public ownership and knowledge of the 2030 Agenda.
- To identify, map and monitor plans and other national public policy instruments that contribute to the implementation of the SDGs and their targets, with a view to ensuring their overall coherence;
- To promote, in collaboration with the various entities in the public, private and social sectors, as well as civil society, initiatives that contribute to assessing the impact of implementing the SDGs.
Duration
- This project began in January 2023 and will run for the duration of the 2030 Agenda and the RCM.
