This paper is part of a set of Brief Overview Notes which aim to investigate the impacts and potential responses to the crisis generated by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. This issue drafts some initial lines of foresight analysis focusing on three aspects: the capacity of existing infrastructures to substitute natural gas imported from Russia; the natural gas reserves of the European Union’s main suppliers; the capacity for increased production of natural gas and liquefied natural gas by the European Union’s main suppliers.
